PATNA: Indian Railway Engineers' Association members on Wednesday staged a daylong dharna in front of the ECR headquarters at Hajipur in protest

against anomalies in the sixth pay commission report. They urged railway minister Mamata Banerjee to intervene and do justice to them. Their demands include grant of gazetted status to senior section engineers and section engineers, upgration of the post of junior engineer to Group B category, payment of 30% of basic as technical allowance and 20% as HRA allowance to all those living in Patna. According to association member S P Verma, a delegation of railway engineers also handed over a memorandum to ECR AGM in this connection. A copy of the memorandum was sent to the Railway Board in which the association threatened to resort to direct course of action if its genuine demands were not met soon, Verma said and added railway engineers across the country observed July 22 as protest day.
