Railway Staff College celebrates Foundation Day

VADODARA: The country's only Railway Staff College celebrated its 60th Foundation Day on Monday. The Indian Railways' premier training institution had started functioning from Pratap Vilas Palace 59 years ago and to mark the occasion, the magnificent palace and its gardens were illuminated.
It is on this day every year that the college honours all those who have excelled in different training programmes conducted during the preceding year. At the same time, the college honours one of its distinguished alumni particularly for contributions in fields other than railways.
On Monday, former member of parliament (Lok Sabha) M A K Swain was honoured with the distinguished alumnus award during a function where Gujarat governor Dr Kamla was the chief guest. Swain had undergone training at this college while working in the Indian Railways' accounts service before he entered public life.
As many as 56 railway officers were awarded for their outstanding performance in different fields like academics, sports, cultural activities among others.
Ratanlal Memorial Trophy for best Indian Railways Personnel Service (IRPS) probationer, Maheshwar Dayal Cup for best performance in extracurricular activities and Lakshmi Sharat Memorial Trophy for lady probationer for excellence in academics and extracurricular activities among IRPS, Indian Railways Stores Services, Indian Railways Accounts Services probationers, Best sportsman trophy were also given away.
Dr Kamla during her address called upon probationers to work tirelessly towards excellence so that prosperous India is handed over to future generations.
