Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani a money-spinner

Mumbai, June 12, 2011: The Mumbai-Delhi route of the Rajdhani Express earned the most revenue for the Western Railway (WR) in 2010-11 according to their list of the top 10 revenue-generating trains. All the revenue data is for one-way journeys. The WR earned around Rs63 crore from the Rajdhani’s Mumbai-Delhi route. The Rajdhani Express connects Mumbai-Delhi provide the best of services in terms of coaches, the quality of seats, and air conditioning.
The WR’s monthly earning of the Rajdhani’s Mumbai-Delhi route is around Rs 5.24 crore while its daily earning is around Rs17.2 lakh. Looking at the Rajdhani’s popularity, the research and design wing of the Indian Railways has proposed air conditioning facilities inside each cabin apart from other amenities like ovens, LED lights, laptop charges and water coolers. “Passengers inside every cabin will be able to regulate the AC,” said a senior WR official, on condition of anonymity. The railways are also looking at improving the body of the train after a Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express caught fire recently.
