DLW to make 5500 HP locomotive

VARANASI: The Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) is all set to produce powerful 5500 HP locomotive and it is expected that the first prototype WDG5 loco will come by February 2012.
According to DLW spokesperson, general manager KBL Mittal formally began the manufacturing process of 500HP WDG5 locomotive by performing puja at loco frame shop on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Mittal said it would be the most powerful diesel locomotive ever produced by the Indian Railway.
He informed that the engine having capacity of 100km per hour would be able to pull all types of goods trains at level tracks. The locomotive would have ultra modern facilities including electronic fuel injection, e-locker, radial dynamic grid, power run auxiliaries and tread break unit.
The locomotive would provide better safety and other facilities to the crew including air-conditioning and toilet.
Besides, it would also have fire display based TFT screen, better visibility and cab collision protection as per international standard EN 12667.
The function was attended by chief mechanical engineers Rakesh Vatash, controller of stores AK Mittal and other officials and employees.
